Our foundation registry and the Foundation USA-Canada registry of Nigerian Dwarf
.Your herd is key to preservation of your breed!

Knowledge of your breed, accurate records and registration process understanding is key to breed preservation
What are the characteristics of your breed?
Did you know that the registration process is often misunderstood, leaving registered goats unregisterable?
Foundation Registry
Nigerian Dwarf (USA-Canada) 1980
Miniature Nubian (USA) [USA breed]
Foundation Registry means that the breed was researched, organized, and preserved by the Foundation Breeders and the foundation heritage breed registry. These are the ones who understand the breed.
Foundation Registry also means the breed records are traced to the breed origin, ensuring that your goat is a true member of the breed you raise.
Know what your breed is
Often times breed descriptions and desired characteristics are completely different from what the breed actually is.
Why does this matter?
When we breed different characteristics or actual breeds into a defined breed, we genetically change that original breed.
When we don’t understand the characteristics of the breed we raise, we can unknowingly change a breed away from what it actually is.
Foundation Registries understand what their breeds are and don’t deviate. This gives stability of characteristics and registered pedigree.
Breed Records
Herd Records:
Accuracy of your herd records (matings, photos transfers, Physical Identification, traits) define your herd and the breed.
DNA Records:
If completed accurately, DNa builds further stability to the Official Registration Pedigree and Breed.
Trait Records:
(production, conformation, generational) display stability in the breed.
Registry Records:
Define
– Breeder and Owner (by permission)
– Physical Identification
– DNA summary if any
– Description
– Official Pedigree
– Registry certification of authenticity

- Multi-faceted DNA program which brings more clarity to the results
- Working with a very difficult non-dairy breed, which has brought a very strong understanding of DNA to the table
- DNA brings clarity and accuracy to our breed records
Traits
Traits are very important in preserving your personal herd, as well as the breed. On our Traits page, we will discuss those types.
